A few comments

Maybe the main limit for search is not something like misspelled words;
it's authors' word choices unknown to potential readers.

There's quite a bit of difference in peoples' knowledge of search, so
much that it makes sense (based on different users' experience) to
consider that search may seem unusable or, for another person,
indispensable.

One key to search is imagining wording that a document about a subject
is likely to include, not necessarily understanding the subject matter.

Finding via keyword search requires knowledge of wording and of the
search process (how the search site works, how to iterate the search).
