I'm confused. Speaking now as a consumer rather than a practitioner, I
totally agree that someone else's classification is not always optimal for
my needs. Since I rely on search as my primary means of navigation I am
hoping that someone in the background has 'augmented' the abhorrable
classification that most solutions do 'automatically'.

What does having an open discussion about classification have to do with
'demon product pushing'? I was pretty sure that the whole reason most of us
have picked this discipline is that we want to put an end to such activities
(or 'mitigate' it, at least) by serving the interests of people who ARE
actually looking for something.

Isn't attacking those people who are willing to defend these activities,
biting the hand that feeds you?
