ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT 

BBCi


 is famous for it’s award-winning BBCi web-site which
transforms the ways in which the BBC reaches its audiences.
We are looking for an information architect with a library
or information science background (taxonomist, indexer or
cataloguer) to create a directory based on facets.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for the definition, development and
implementation of robust and highly usable information
structures for software and information products under
development. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The information architect will: 
1. Lead workshops to extract and document requirements from
the team. 
2. Analyse sample content and work out the best way to
describe the content. 
3. Create controlled vocabularies to describe the content. 
4. Create the business rules that will allow the directory
to be generated. 
5. Work with producers and project managers to assure a
smooth transition of projects. 
6. Communicate with senior managers regarding the status of
specific projects. 

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Performance will be measured by:

1. Ability to employ user-centred design processes to
ensure that information is accessible
2. Ability to communicate and document design decisions
effectively using images and text
3. Ability to build strong collaborative relationships with
team and client

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE

1. Ideally have a Bachelor's degree in library and
information science or related field or equivalent
experience. 

2. Ideally have 3+ years experience as indexer, cataloguer
or information architect.

3. In-depth knowledge of and experience with information
architecture and business analysis methodology

4. Experience in writing information architecture reports
and working with designers, producers, and software
developers. 

5. The ability to think creatively, generate innovative
ideas, prioritise complex tasks, and work well under
pressure.

6. Knowledge of SGML/XML, and project management experience
are desirable.

7. An effective communicator at all levels with the ability
to present clear and focussed ideas and concepts to a
diverse audience

8. Strong written communication skills with a understanding
of how to structure formal documentation in the content
design field

9. Deep understanding of user centred interaction design,
research and testing techniques

10. Developed and effective project management skills with
experience of leading projects from concept to
implementation

11. Experience of standard analysis tools such as card
sorting, site mapping and wire frames

12. Ability to synthesize information and identify salient
points, visualise solutions (big picture and detail),
rapidly grasp complex systems, and explain intangible
concepts clearly
