<snip>does anyone think that the machines are geared most towards
regular users, who, over time, learn to operate the interface quickly?
Because for me, the first time was a teeny bit tricky, but now I barely

One of Alan Cooper's maxims of interaction design is to always design
for the intermediate user, since those are the majority of users. The
trick is to do it without making it too difficult for beginners or too
easy for experts. Especially on a system like the Metrocard Machines
which will have millions of beginners.
