[Sigia-l] UI Design Question - Client Versus Server Side Validation

Wouldn't the effectiveness of client vs. server validation of web forms
depend greatly on what is being validated?

We do a lot of validation here, on both the front- and back-end, and as
a general rule the only thing we validate on the front end is format
(making sure the email address is x at x.x for example). So much else these
days requires a database to validate (or else you are sending the client
a ridiculous amount of data) that it is fairly obvious what needs to be
validated where. Then it is just a matter of optimizing the front- or
back-end, not debating between the effectiveness of the two.
