I got my attention too. I am surprised by the poor review since her
book "Human Computer Interaction" has been a standby for years
(co-authored, but Preece is the primary author).

I am using her new book "Interaction Design: Beyond HCI" for an HCI
class I'm teaching in computer science. I have found it to be a good
text. I wish it went into more depth about some things, but overall
I'm satisfied and have no trouble recommending it.
