I doubt it.

Since we're making analogies with abandon, that'd be like trying to pass as
a good cook just because you can read/write good restaurant reviews.

I agree with most of your points, except the above. I doubt you would be
able to '_think_ in programming terms' without having done some scripting of
various kinds that you cited. Sometimes you just have to get your hands
dirty.
