Of the people I've collaborated with on various projects (some in IA roles,
some in others) I'd have to say that the good were either very clued in
technically, or else knew very little *and knew they knew little*. People
with moderate technical knowledge would second-guess those of us who did
whether in assuming we couldn't do something that was actually quite easy,
or assuming we were BSing when we said something was ill-advised or simply
not feasible.
