[Sigia-l] visio feature improvements - why bother?

Ideal:
- We get to pick what tool we use to create IA, workflows, process
diagrams, etc. Nobody tells us what to eat, what to wear, what to
think...
Reality:
- Sometimes we're forced to use whatever tool someone gives us.
When working for myself, heading up an in-house team, or running my own
business, more often than not, I get to choose my own tools to create
this type of thing.
When I've come in as a consultant, on contract, from time to time, I've
been "asked" to do the diagrams in Visio, because that's what they use
already. And while I'm faster in Illustrator and OmniGraffle than
Visio, because that's what I use, they insist that I use Visio. Same
thing with what platform - Mac vs. PC. I can use both, but I have my
preference. I have been put in positions before that required me to use
one over the other. Some places don't care about what tool works better
for you, or which one you're more efficient on. They simply care about
making you conform.
You can argue that I "had a choice to take the job or not," but that's
not realistic, as the "request" to use Visio doesn't happen until after
you're in the door.
There's ideology and then there's reality. Or, there's theory and then
there's practice.

In theory, theory and practice are the same,
but in practice, they're not .
The only thing necessary for evil to exist in the world is for good men
to do nothing.
