Thanks John. This will work for one of the situations

In one of the two situations users will be adding new and existing items
to the grandparent level. They need to create items at the parent and
child levels as well as filling in predetermined properties at all
levels. I think in this situation we might have to go with a two pane
layout with a tree for navigation on the left panes and CRUD (create,
review, update, delete) operations on the right pane). Trying to mimic
Windows Explorer as best we can. Does anyone have experience with this
approach? Any advice?
