Yes, we are oodles ahead, to put it technically. :-)
Forget about anything else that happened since 1945, just consider the
Internet, globally. It's truly mind boggling.

Meaning cannot be given, its derived by the receiver. So the best we can do
is to make the tools for and the process of that derivation as efficient as
possible. We have made great strides there and look at the vector of change.

Perhaps, but then he'd miss the point. Our ability to process, analyze and
make use of information will always lag our ability to generate it. I can't
think of a time when this will/can be reversed. So it's a continuous
challenge and stating that is stating the obvious.
