I guess so. Note that I wasn't representing my own opinion, just what
outsiders expect of IAs - that we are lab-coat wearing scientists whose
knowledge is all empirical. 

I should say, though, that it isn't at all unfair to expect an IA to be
well-informed on usability research and methodologies. I just object to
the idea that *all* IA knowledge and recommendations need to be based on
lab-tested, double-blind clinical experiments and research.
