The reason I'm not directing my remarks to you/your company is that this
particular market is a very small one, in comparison to the general business
software universe.
If your livelihood depends on selling customizable software, well, then, you
are constrained by a bunch of limitations. (I have some notions about that
but I won't go into them as they define a very narrow field.)
What I objected was that you jumped from your particular situation to the
general realm of business software and constructed a "business reality"
which is not always defensible. The logical end of this line of thinking
leads us to "use menus because everybody else is using them" (as one person
actually claimed) and that's just not supportable on the merits.
One of the tenets of being "risk aware" is that one has to think of the
consequences of propagating bad practices, in the name of risk aversion.
There's a risk in that, don't you think?
