I didn't get the impression that  Peter was saying all visualization is
bad. To my mind, the bad are the ones where the spatial metaphor is
stretched beyond credulity, or where a spatail orientation is
meaningless, so what was the point. Table Lens is great, so are some of
the tools which visualize hierarchies, which are, after all,
hierarchical. So were LyberWorld and VIBE in their day. What I object to
is "sporting goods is in the 'room' next to 'pharmaceuticals', and both
are close to 'farming". In other words, random assignment to some area
of a map solely to present a map.
