Thank you, Whitney! As always, you cut through to the point so well. I 
think you're exactly right on your vector analogy. Too, having come to 
this field from the ranks of the technical writers, I've seen so many 
parallels to my former career echoed in the language of others: HCI, IA, 
ID, ID, and so on.
Also, don't clothes make the field?  ;)
