I think we should all try our hand at this!
Here's the survey that was given to 18 - 24 year olds across multiple
countries (you know the one where only 13% were able to identify where Iraq
is on a map!):

Actually, in the interest of more exactitude, the survey indicated that 13%
of Americans between 18 & 24 could locate Iraq on an unlabeled map. So to
be fair, the geographic illiteracy is centered within a certain segment of
the population. Now, this isn't meant to diminish Listera's point, just to
set the record perhaps more exactly.
The survey was conducted by the National Geographic Society among youth in
the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Sweden, and Britain.
It consisted of 56 questions about geography & current events. Source: Paul
