I find this interesting as well as I am a tech person trying to get back in
to IA. Lately I've been looking in to Creative Writing, Communications, and
Design, for Masters work. What I've come up with is that these programs
don't entirely speak to my career intentions. I've yet to come across any
program that teaches theory and application with a focus on the web and I
live in Chicago.

UIC's Communications dept. has a growing interest in Internet research
within it's media studies division but doesn't really present and coursework
to back it up. Columbia's offerings at the masters level are pretty dismal,
DePaul has HCI but cost is inhibitive. So the academic world also still
seems to divide the skills of web professionals in to CIS, MIS, and the
associated creative fields.

I personally think that, after having been in an IS dept., it would be good
to see organiations recognize that the Web can be a marketing tool and if it
is being leveraged in that fashion it ought to be placed within the correct
organizational context.
