Mailing lists that may be useful are

VOCAB-L at LISTSERV.UIC.EDU
VOCAB-L at LISTSERV2.UIC.EDU
These are mainly concerned with Getty vocabularies. They are both listed
by <http://www.lsoft.com/scripts/wl.exe?qL=vocab-l&F=L&F=T>
but I don't know the difference between them. The list owner was David
Austin so perhaps he can tell us their current status. I am subscribed
but it seems a long time since I received any messages.

controlled-vocabulary at listserv.mcn.edu
A list of the Museum Computer Network, but open to anyone to subscribe.
Again not very active

Two UK lists are:

VOCAB-HE (mainly for the higher education community, but the discussion
is general)
<http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A0=vocab-he&D=0&H=0&O=T&T=1.>

and

FISH (Forum for Information Standards in Heritage - mainly UK historic
sites and archaeology issues, though again they sometimes discuss the
principles on which controlled vocabularies are or should be
constructed)
<http://www.fish-forum.info/>

Web sites of interest include

ISKO: the International Society for Knowledge Organization
<http://is.gseis.ucla.edu/orgs/isko/isko.html>
"Welcome to the Web's most authoritative source of information about
knowledge organization (KO), concept theory, classification, indexing,
and knowledge representation. This is the official site of ISKO -- the
premier scholarly society devoted to the theory and practice of
knowledge organization." They also have a mailing list:
<isko-l at majordomo.srv.ualberta.ca>

NKOS: Networked Knowledge Organization Systems/Services:
<http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/>
This Web site seems temporarily unavailable, but you can see a cached
version on Google and the archives of their mailing list can be accessed
at:
<http://www.dli2.nsf.gov/archives/nkos.html>

I have some other information about thesaurus principles and quite a lot
of references on our own Web site at <http://www.willpowerinfo.co.uk/> -
any feedback and updating to that would be welcome.
