Like the IA Summits, the UPA conference is a small, friendly, collegial
conference on a defined topic (compared to all of HCI, for example) - with
sessions that exploring that issue from a lot of perspectives.

This may seem like an odd thing to say, but one of the things that I liked
about it when I first attended was that the "leaders" actually attended
sessions - the conference is for practitioners, not just newbies or
researchers. Even when there were only 4 concurrent sessions, I was often
torn about what to attend.

It's one of my favorites.

(and why I now work with UPA as a volunteer)
