As for my opinion, It all depends on the mind-set of the user. You have to
understand, how they would be looking for the tomato. Understand, how the
user classify's the tomato.
For example in my country (Singapore) , If you tell someone to go get a
tomatoes. They will most often go the vegetables section, becoz, of various
factors.
1) We have separate fruits stores, that sell fruits, (apples, pears ,grapes,
pineapples, etc) and tomatoes are never found in fruit stalls.
2) If you go the Wet-Markets, the vegetable stalls, are the ones selling
tomatoes.
3) If you go to a super-market, Tomatoes are never found in the fruit
section.
4) Tomatoes are rarely(Can't say never as there is always small % who do)
eaten by themselves as a fruit like apples, oranges, banana's etc. They are
always used in cooking various dishes.
5) Traditionally, most people keep the tomatoes in their refrigerator in the
vegetables section and not the fruits area. ( Always a small % of error)
6) You learn all this concepts from young from your parents, living in this
culture and experiencing them, and it is forever in your mind.
So, if I was to design a store in here selling tomatoes, I would put it in
the vegetable section.
There will be always be a small % of people who will look in the fruit
section. These would be the foreigners who live here and others. If the
client says, that the small % is a priority, then I would include a sign in
the fruit section to guide them to where the tomatoes area.
So, it all depends on the mind-set of your users, if they are diverse and
they look at both places, then that is to be provided, with a technical
content management solution that ease's maintenance and all your business
needs.
The Key point - Understand your mind-set of your user with the goals of your
site.
