It could...if you wanted to *manually* enter page-specific meta-tags in
potentially thousands of pages.

If, on the other hand, you already have sufficiently sophisticated software
that is generating *page-specific* meta-tags, then obviously you could
easily and simultaneously generate the breadcrumb as well, so there'd be no
earthly reason to parse anything.

The idea here, in case you missed it, is to *automate* the whole process.
