I agree. During my current job search, I've ran in to many different
positions that present the opportunity to practice IA roles but not
exclusively. Thes positions have ranged in title from Web Producer to
Content/Knowledge Manager and from Interface Designer to Internet Project
Manager. I have ran across very few solely IA positions.

With the advent and application of emergent systems and network theory being
applied to web site design, I believe there will definitely be a need for
professionals dedicated to developing the inherent structures of web
applications. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the more progressive
academic institutions create focuses for existing curriculums to serve this
need.

With the growing reliance on CMS, CRM, ERP, and whatever other acronyms one
can conceive of to describe managing relationshis and information, we will
see the need for people who can deftly integrate the business logic,
organizational units, information design, and interface in to a seemless,
cohesive entity (let's not get in AI here :) That is where I personally see
the future need for IA as a standalone profession.

But that's just my 2 cents
