I can add an anecdote to that one.
A few years ago, we were working on an internal system for a major
publisher to pull together all of their book, product and author
information in a coherent structure that everyone could access. During our
user interviews, we asked where they were getting various kinds of
information now. Many of the editors were using the web - Amazon, personal
author sites, and so on - for information about their own books.
