The thing that got me started thinking about page numbers and books is a pet
peeve that I have: streaming formats (Real, WMP, QT) are not 'bookmarkable'.
I know there are some technical issues relating to keyframes, compression
and playback rates, but engineering wise it is not impossible. I mean
critics have forced even Macromedia to (sort of) enable Flash to carry
bookmarks, but for streams we still don't have an effective bookmarking
capability, without which the 'engineers' of audio/video editing couldn't do
their job at all. We had SMPTE code for decades and web bookmarkability for
almost a decade now, yet we don't have bookmarks for audio/video streams. I
sure hope it takes less than 75 years this time.

Best,

Ziya
