[Sigia-l] Why "design" makes some of us cringe.

This is very interesting.
The word design doesn't make me cringe nearly as much as the word
"designer", especially when I might be applying that term to myself.
But that is not for the reasons Andrew mentions. It is b/c I am so moved
by good design. Bad design is bad design and I deal w/ it. Good design
shakes my knees and I have such a high regard for it.
Can what I do be knee-shaking? Maybe? But it usually shakes people's
knees out of fear than out of admiration. ;-)
My point is really that I have taken on the role and identity of
designer after really learning (for me) what design is. It involves not
just intention, but directed problem solving through the application of
research, methods, and precident in theory.
This to me is also the difference between designing and being creative.
