Not so fast! Let me qualify Christina's alert:
Almost without fail on every project I've ever worked on or supervised,
figuring out the answer to this and other DHTML questions ends up
falling right into my lap as the IA. I am the creator of the f---ed up
wireframes and I am the interaction designer. IAs are often looked to as
the person to figure out the details of the interface widgetry. At the
very least they are a key member of the client-side interaction behavior
triumvirate of (a) the HTML coder, (b) the visual designer, and (c) the
IA.
I agree that this is not a list for DHTML discussions, but I think we
should agree that posts like Patrick's initial question are valuable as
long as the usual "Please reply off-list and I will summarize" is
included as well.
An ongoing DHTML discussion is a waste of SIGIA bandwidth. But a
compiled summary of the various workarounds to this critical and
demonically persistent interaction design problem would be invaluable.
