Good point. There certainly is an opportunity for interface design
innovation in exploiting metadata to build more powerful navigation
(rather than search-based or single-hierarchy) interfaces.

- Bingo kids!  This is exactly how I have designed the navigation paths for
the new website here.  It is just another layer in the information
architecture - pretty scary stuff to the powers that be but it is going
ahead.  I have also designed a metadata tag to assign the position in the
node using the functionality of MetaTagger.
