Just as a curiosity, I came across an interesting library organisation
scheme recently at Traquair House in Scotland, thought to be taken from
another private library in London.

Above each of the cases of antique books was a painted portrait of a
classical greek philosopher. On the spine of each book was the name of
the philosopher, followed by numbers for the number of shelves down from
the top, and the number of books from the left of the bookcase.

Dewey wasn't really all that long ago by the standards of European
history.

The books I looked at the titles of mostly concerned aspects of the
protestant/catholic religious conflicts.
