As a user of some of these products, I've been wondering the
same thing as well. Haven't had the opportunity to experience
it from the viewpoint of a developer making the browser vs.
client server choice though.

It's as if they've missed the point of moving to a browser based
front-end.

For example, we've been setting up WebHound (for server log
stats) http://www.sas.com/products/webhound/index.html
and it seems to output a combination of client side java applets,
javascript, etc. that only work in Win IE -- and then not every
version of Windows.

Why bother with the browser based display? Unless the goal is to
provide a platform independent front-end, I think, in perhaps not
Susan's case, but in most they would do better to just create a
client for it.
