Information Architect


The Company
Object 1 is a digital professional services company based in London.

Specialising in consulting, design, and development, we implement
information management solutions for a prestigious client base including
Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, Reuters, Chrysalis, Wood Mackenzie and the
Department for Education & Skills.

Summary
We are currently looking for an experienced information architect to join
our team on a contract or part-time basis building interactive systems and
networked applications within a creative, vibrant, future focused company.
The position will be a key role, working closely with consultants, graphic
designers, technical architects and the development team.

Applicants should come from a suitable academic background with have at
least 2 years applied experience preferably gained through project related
development.  Ideally the applicant should have experience working in teams,
skills in concept development and design implementation, as well as the
ability to work on multiple projects.

Aside from the candidate¹s relevant skill-set, aptitude and industry
experience, they must also be able to contribute as a valuable member of the
Object 1 team.  We look to involve staff in carrying forward and supporting
strategies, policies and initiatives as well as supporting the company¹s
business objectives through their role.
 

The Role
This is a key position within Object 1¹s interaction design team, working
with graphic designers, consultants, project managers and development teams
to map user-interfaces onto to back-end systems. All project teams are
comprised of cross-disciplinary individuals, promoting knowledge sharing,
and comprehension of the relationship between technological, functional and
visual design. 

The incumbent will apply user-centric research and design skills to
understanding users and to creating user-centred solutions for our clients.

The primary functions within development of browser-based solutions include
    - Ensure product quality
    - Site application
    - Navigation
    - Instruction
    - Site architecture
    - Dataflow
    - Create and transform content/information into appropriate information
structures
    - Create appropriate structure for user interaction (navigation)
    - Evaluate, critique and advise on existing content structures and
interactions
    - Brief & work with a graphic designer during the design process to
influence usability and accessibility
Brief and work with project manager and developers during the development
and testing process to ensure quality and guidance

Candidates must have Bachelor's degree in HCI, graphic design, interface,
information or similar fields with minimum 1-2 years of related work
experience preferred, project experience in working on teams, excellent
skill in concept development and design implementation, experience in
working on multiple projects.


Responsibilities
- Understand Mission and Goals - Work with the team and client to understand
the project mission and goals form presentation to function. Facilitating
this vision will be through the points listed below.

- Identify the Client's 'Vision' - Work with accounts and consultant teams
to identify or determine the vision of a project

- Define or understand the Audience - Working independently or with focus
groups and team members, fully understand and document the audience or role
of the user

- Create a Content Inventory - Work with clients to facilitate or create an
inventory of content where relevant.

- Identify Environments and Systems - Work with technology and consultancy
personnel to determine relevant project technologies

- Create Site Maps - Including route that potential users of the site will
travel and draw upon elements of usability.

- Create Content Maps - Describe content as it might appear to a database.

- Sort the data by type - Identify any properties or relationships inherent
in the data. 

- Design Page Schematics - Working with graphic designers and functional
architects to define the organisation of page elements ­ Including sketches,
wire frames, storyboards, block diagrams etc with a focus on the application
of usability principles and techniques

- Define Constructive Processes - Create a clear set of design parameters
for each group: Writers, Graphic designers, HTML programmers, production /
project managers application developers and technical architects.


Projects
Projects will range from creating highly usable content driven websites for
consumption across a number of audiences to highly functional browser based
content and analysis authoring systems for very specific industry functions.
