I'll second Jesse's and Liz's suggestion. Wonderful book, best I've seen.
Strunk and White tell you _what_ you should do, Williams shows you _how_
to actually do it. Lots of nice examples, comparing text before and after
rewriting. Williams is also a lot subtler than Strunk and White, for
example, explaining when you _should_ use the passive voice.
