When I worked as an IA at Compuware (KCMO) the Technical Architect
partnered with the IA and the client to determine the best strategy for
utilizing available technology. Although it added another layer to the
overall process, I always thought their availability and input was valuable.
On the other hand, similar to the often mentioned (creative) tensions
between Graphics Designers and IAs, Technical Architects' roles sometimes
blurred -- insofar as they believed their solutions should determine
IA/Design. All very interesting and valuable, particularly from an org /
collaboration perspective.
