Technically speaking, if there's a unique ID/variable involved in
identifying a specific user/session, then that portion of the URL cannot
really be eliminated. However up to that point in the file path, the URL can
indeed be re-mapped to something shorter and more intelligible with pretty
much trivial ease via your web server. Sure there's an overhead associated
with this, but in the grand scheme of things it'll probably amount to
nothing to worry about. Don't know why more folks don't use this.
