I don't know whether this adds anything to the discussion, but in the vein
of "Watson",  there is another area that is growing in terms of quick and
convenient information retrieval: "interactive agents".

There is an AIM (AOL IM) based agent called "SmarterChild"
(http://www.smarterchild) which allows for basic info like news, weather,
stocks, movie times/locations and even translation services to be
interactively retrieved over Instant Messaging chat sessions.

It reminds me of the early days of text based adventure games, but with ever
expanding IM and wireless services it seems like an area that's only going
to grow, adding to more variety.
