The Department of Information Studies at the University of Sheffield is pleased
to announce a new part-time Master’s degree programme in Health Informatics. 
Delivered via distance learning technology, the Health Informatics
International Programme is global in scope and brings together students from
around the world to provide the knowledge and skills that will help them to
maximise the use of information and ICTs in their health care sector. It equips
students with generic tools to enable them to respond to future developments in
health care and in information technology while grounding these in the "real
world" of current initiatives in information policy, technology and
management.

Health Informatics is a rapidly developing field that is increasingly viewed as
a key driver in modernising health services and in ensuring that patients
receive the best possible care. The delivery and use of information within
healthcare is particularly important as technology changes so rapidly, for
example, the development of electronic patient records, the advent of online
communities, the development of new imaging techniques, etc. ICTs present an
exciting opportunity to improve how information is collected, stored,
retrieved, analysed and shared in health care. ICTs also facilitate
communication between different people involved in the processes of health
care, i.e., patients, health care professionals, managers and planners of
health services.

Students undertake the programme over three years. During the first two years
students study taught modules via distance-learning and in the final year
students undertake their research dissertation.  Using state-of-the-art
software to ensure a high standard of education, classes will be taught in
real-time, face-to-face instruction with ongoing communication with tutors and
colleagues.  There is a virtual common room, so you can share ideas and
experiences 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The deadline for applications is early August prior to the start of the
programme at the end of September.
