Subject: [kddm-sig] Data Mining Competition by KDDM-WG and AHRQ

Dear Working Group Leader,

As discussed at our meeting last Fall, we announce today a data mining
competition for students. Our KDDM Working Group will host a panel
presentation of the winners, according to the rules and detailed
announcement found at our KDDM-WG web page:
http://www.amia.org/mbrcenter/wg/kddm/news.asp . A summary of the
announcement follows this brief message. To support the effort, please
forward the announcement to others at your university or employment, that
may be interested in the competition. I would welcome your call to (515)
205-3102 or an email to my office at phillikt at ihs.org to clarify.

I hope that all of us can make this a successful competition and look
forward to seeing you at the Fall 2007 meeting.

The Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Working Group of the American
Medical Information Association (AMIA) is announcing a data mining
competition in collaboration with the Agency for Healthcare Research and
Quality (AHRQ) for the purpose of studying best practices in data mining of
administrative health care data. The AHRQ has agreed to supply a
complimentary copy of their data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization
Project (HCUP), the Nationwide Inpatient Sample, to each qualified
contestant. Please review the following rules carefully and contact the
Moderator with any questions at phillikt at ihs.org. Four winning individuals
or teams will be invited to present their results at the AMIA 2007 Annual
Symposium.
