Proposals Now Being Accepted for the 2005 ISI/ASIS&T Citation Analysis Research Grant 

Philadelphia, PA  USA-London UK  March 29, 2005—Today, The Thomson Corporation and the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) announced that they are accepting proposals for the ISI/ASIS&T Citation Analysis Research Grant.  Created in 1997 from a donation by ISI® (now part of Thomson Scientific), the $3,000 grant supports research based on citation analysis by encouraging and assisting individuals with their ongoing or newly proposed research.

Over the last eight years, the ISI/ASIST Citation Analysis Research Grant has been awarded to candidates who later made significant contributions to science and technology.  Past grant recipients include Jian Qin (1997), David Dubin (1998), Ian Rowlands (1999), Michael Kurtz (2000), John Budd/MaryEllen Sievert/Gabriel M. Person/Ku Chuin Su (2001), Chaomei Chen (2002), Rong Tang (2003), and David Hubbard (2004).

ASIS&T bridges the gaps between the research that drives innovation and the practices that sustain new developments,” commented Jim Pringle, vice president of development & general manager of BIOSIS, Thomson Scientific 
In addition to the ISI/ASIST&T Citation Analysis Research Grant, Thomson sponsors two additional awards.  Established in 1981, the ISI Doctoral Dissertation Proposal consists of a $1,500 scholarship (plus $500 toward travel to the ASIS&T annual meeting) to encourage and assist doctoral students in the field of their dissertation research.  In recognition of the importance of teachers, Thomson  also sponsors the ISI Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award—a cash award in the amount of $1,000 (plus $500 toward travel to the ASIS&T annual meeting)—to a recipient who has made a unique teaching contribution in the filed of information science.
