[Sighfis-l] SIG funds roll over?

Hello, I am still here, somewhat. I agree that the SIG should try to retain the funds, and join Chuck in commending Toni for her ideas. But I would suggest consideration of a somewhat different take on her ideas for supporting specific oral history projects just yet in order to confront the problem of the elephant in the room. By that, I mean the long-ignored problem of the disgraceful status of ASIST's recorded history today--disorganized or lost, out of ASIST's control largely, no effort to manage or consolidate, no plan or timeline for doing something about it. Could the SIG perhaps undertake to use its funds to make some headway toward a happy solution, perhaps by forming a task group to sort out the situation and propose a plan, perhaps by airing the problem and possibilities at a future session, or maybe both? I find it ironic and embarassing that an organization for a profession dedicated to excellence in capturing and exploiting the world's records should be doing so poorly with its own history and records. End of oration.
Ben

Subject: [Sighfis-l] SIG funds roll over?
Greetings,
Just another reminder that the period for nominating new leadership for the SIG is open! Please contact me to nominate yourself (or someone else!) at your earliest convenience.
The next item of SIG business is as follows:
SIGs wishing to be considered for SIG of the Year and/or requesting funds rollover must submit this form by August 15th.
SIGs may, upon request, roll over 100% of their fund balance to the next fiscal year, provided they can provide specific justification for needing to do so (eg. programming needs, award needs, etc.). Otherwise 50% of funds remaining at the end of the fiscal year will be continued to the following year.
So this is our chance to save anything we didn't spend this year - we'll lose half of what is in our coffers to the program fund otherwise. (I have a request in about the budget). Anyone have any ideas for items that would help justify rolling over the SIG funds into the next fiscal year?
