Dear Beth,

Your Professors are right. Even today, finding authoritative, quality
information on the Web is not easy. You end up wasting a lot of your
valuable time. The reason being, information on the Web is not organized in
a systematic manner as is done in any library. There are no uniform
standards for organization and retrieval of information. According to a
recent survey, only 20% of the currently available information on the Web is
accessible to us. This is because of inherent problems in almost all the
search engines. I am sure you must be aware that the WWW Consortium is
actively encouraging the use of library and information science methods for
organizing the information on the web. A lot of research projects are
currently on, using the UDC, DDC schemes and other indexing systems.

I am a library and information science professional from India and I have
been in this field for almost 25 years now. I feel that this is the best
time for professionals like us, who, I am sure will be very much more in
demand than before, provided we stay abreast of the latest developments in
our field. Wishing you all the best!

Mrs. S.C. Deokattey
