[Sigdl-l] Announcing the Digital Curation Interest Group in ALA/ACRL

Greetings all,

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Digital Curation
Interest Group (DCIG), a new interest group in the American Libraries
Association (ALA) / Association of College and Research Libraries
(ACRL), with Marisa Ramirez, of Cal Poly, as convener and Patricia
Hswe, of Penn State, as vice-convener.

We launched this group to:
- provide a forum and foster support in the exploration, adaptation,
and implementation of emerging digital curation services,
technologies, and infrastructures
- sponsor discussions or programs that share how libraries are working
to meet the needs of curating a variety of content in digital form
- inform and educate librarians on digital curation trends and new technologies
- collaborate with other organizations within the library profession
and academe on issues concerning digital curation

The DCIG has a listserv, acr-igdc-l at ala.org. To subscribe, please go
to http://lists.ala.org/sympa/info/acr-igdc-l and click on the
"Subscribe" link at lower left.

We invite you to join our mailing list and contribute to discussions
regarding programming for the year and to get involved via various
roles in the DCIG, soon to be posted on that list.

We plan to kick off the first year of the DCIG with a virtual meeting
(timed around ALA Midwinter in January 2012). Our first f2f meeting is
planning for ALA Annual in Anaheim in June 2012. In the coming months,
we'll be seeking suggestions for topics to cover at these events and
volunteers to present on them.

We will do our best to help fulfill the charge we set forth, but we
also look forward to YOUR contributions as curators in various roles,
whether you are repository managers, archivists, e-science librarians,
subject specialists in science or social science, or data services
librarians.

As a new subfield in academic librarianship, digital curation in
practice is still evolving. This group is meant to capture what folks
are doing at their institutions and organizations.
