[Sigdl-l] SIG-DL 2010 Election Results

The SIG-DL Nominating Committee is pleased to announce the 2010 SIG-DL

Elections results. The new officers' terms are active as of the SIG-DL 
business meeting at the ASIST 2009 Annual Meeting on November 9, 2009.

*Chair-Elect- June Abbas*
Dr. Abbas, is Associate Professor in the School of Library and 
Information Studies (SLIS) at the University of Oklahoma, Norman campus. 
She obtained her PhD in Information Science from the University of North 
Texas in 2001 and taught in the Department of Library and Information 
Studies at the State University of New York in Buffalo from 2001-2008 
before joining the SLIS in August 2008. Her research focuses on the 
development of user-centered digital libraries, institutional 
repositories, and other knowledge organization structures. She also 
conducts research on children and technology. The courses she teaches 
include those related to the organization of information and knowledge 
resources, cataloging and classification, indexing and surrogation, 
digital libraries, and digital information retrieval. She has also 
served as project manager on seven digital libraries projects and on 
task forces to develop institutional repositories at two universities. 
Currently she is Chair of the ALA RDA Programming Taskforce. She 
previously served as SIG-DL membership officer in 2009.


*Communications Officer - Ali Shiri*
Dr. Shiri is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and 
Information Studies at the University of Alberta. He received his PhD 
from the University of Strthclyde, Glasgow, UK. His research interests 
include information retrieval, digital libraries user interfaces, visual 
interfaces for IR, and social tagging and interfaces.

*Treasurer - Susan Wells-Parham*
Susan Parham is Head, Data Curation Services at Georgia Tech Library and 
Information Center, where she is responsible for planning and 
implementing the Library's program in digital research data curation. 
Additionally, she manages digital preservation strategies as Georgia 
Tech's MetaArchive Project Manager. Susan previously served as Georgia 
Tech Library's Head of Digital Library Development. She obtained an MS 
in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois in 
1999 and plans to complete the Certificate of Advanced Studies in 
Digital Libraries from UIUC in 2010. Her research interests include 
digital preservation and digital curation. She previously served as 
SIG-DL communications officer in 2009.

*Webmaster - Fatih Oguz*
Dr. Oguz is Assistant Professor in the Master of Library and Information 
Science Program at Valdosta State University. He received his PhD in 
Information Science from the University of North Texas in 2007. His 
research interests include digital libraries, information systems design 
and analysis, information architecture, web services, communities of 
practice and technology adoption. He previously served as SIG-DL 
webmaster officer in 2009.

*Membership Officer - Anne Diekema*
Dr. Diekema is Assistant Professor in the Department of Instructional 
Technology & Learning Sciences in the Emma Eccles Jones College of 
Education and Human Services. She received her PhD from Syracuse 
University in 2003. Her research interests lie in the areas of digital 
libraries, information retrieval, information organization, and human 
information behavior. Currently, she is teaching aspiring school 
librarians all over the state of Utah as part of the School Library 
Media Administration program. She's also teaching pre-service elementary 
teachers on how to use technology in their classrooms. As part of her 
research Dr Diekema is working with the Verizon Foundation on the 
Thinkfinity project assigning educational standards to digital 
resources. Her other project is with the Institute of Museum and Library 
Services where she is collaborating on an open source metadata tool . 
Prior to joining the faculty at Utah State University (Fall 2008) she 
was an Assistant Research Professor and Interim Director of the Center 
for Natural Language Processing in the School of Information Studies at 
Syracuse University.

*Chair - Barrie Hayes*
Barrie Hayes is the Bioinformatics Librarian and Collaboration Center 
Manager at the Health Sciences Library. She has a BS degree in Biology 
from North Carolina State University and an MS in Library Sciences from 
the UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS). She has a background 
in information services and web systems development, and previously managed 
HSL's Applications Development Services Department. In her current role, 
Barrie supports library services for bioinformatics and UNC's translational 
research efforts, and coordinates videoconferencing and visualization services 
of the HSL Collaboration Center <http://www.hsl.unc.edu/Collaboration/index.cfm>.

*Past-Chair - Miguel Ruiz*
Dr. Ruiz’s primary area of research focuses on: information retrieval, 
data and text mining, image retrieval (specifically applied to medical 
images), natural language processing for medical documents, and health 
informatics. He served as SIG-DL Chair in 2009.
