DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY AND SPONSORED RESEARCH
The Purdue Libraries seek a creative, innovative and experienced person to head
digital technology research efforts and manage technology operations within the
Libraries. The Director of Technology and Sponsored Research will seek funding
and collaborative partners within Purdue as well as other institutions to
explore options in the creation of a digital repository along with other
technology initiatives (especially in support of new initiatives in informatics
and digital instruction). The Director will also manage an operational unit
responsible for the production environment of existing digital services and will
provide leadership for technology-driven processes and services throughout the
Purdue Libraries.
The Director will expand and enhance existing working relationships with other
information systems units at Purdue, as well as with academic departments and
labs engaged in complementary research efforts. The Director will serve as the
major liaison with organizations such as the Coalition for Networked
Information, EDUCAUSE, and the Open Archives initiative, and will participate
actively in the national and international development of digital library models
and standards.
The Director will be a member of the Libraries' senior management team and will
contribute to long-range planning, program development and evaluation, budget
formulation, and allocation of resources in support of the Libraries' mission.
As a member of the Libraries' faculty, the Director must meet Purdue
requirements for promotion and tenure.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an
ALA-accredited program with directly applicable and increasingly responsible
experience in academic libraries. Seven or more years experience in library or
academic computing, preferably in a large academic or research institution.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current trends and issues in the
application of technology to libraries and higher education. Experience in
planning for the delivery of information resources in a diverse computing
environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix environment
and to cultivate staff throughout the organization to take responsibility for
the support and development of technology. Evidence of highly effective
communication, interpersonal, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills.
Experience with developing and utilizing funding from outside sources highly
desirable. Record of achievement commensurate with Purdue requirements for
appointment as Associate Professor or Professor.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
STATUS AND BENEFITS: Faculty status and responsibilities. Rank of
Associate/Full Professor. Twelve month appointment with annual vacation of 22
working days. Flexible benefit programs with open enrollments annually.

Security coverage.
LIBRARIES: The Purdue University Libraries system which consists of the
undergraduate library and 13 school and departmental libraries, has holdings of
over 2 million volumes. Staff totals more than 200, including 60 faculty and
professionals. An innovative information literacy instruction program promotes
collaboration with teaching faculty, employing multiple approaches to integrate
active learning into the University curriculum and prepare students for lifelong
learning. All staff participate in carrying out the Libraries strategic plan to
accomplish measurable, outcome-oriented goals in four main areas: The Learning
Library, Scholarly Communication, User-Centered Services, and Infrastructure.
