NATIONAL SCIENCE DIGITIAL LIBRARY HIGHLIGHTS GROWING COLLECTIONS AT ANNUAL=
=20
MEETING
Arlington, VA=97=97The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National=20
Science Digital Library (NSDL) invites you to attend an NSDL poster=20
reception October 12 and the NSDL annual meeting October 13-15 at the=20
Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.
The poster reception on Sunday evening will provide an opportunity to see=20
and interact with some of the many online collections that compose the=20
NSDL. Among other things, NSDL collections let students and teachers listen=
=20
to animals ranging from hummingbirds to whales; compare the skeletons of=20
humans, gorillas and baboons; operate mechanical models for understanding=20
basic principles of motion; explore the oceans through 100 years of sea=20
voyages and historical documents; and find hands-on museum exhibits and=20
classroom activities to explain scientific concepts.
NSDL is an NSF-supported program to build the collections and services of=20
an online digital library for science, technology, engineering and=20
mathematics education. The NSDL provides access to materials and methods=20
that reveal the nature of the physical universe and the intellectual means=
=20
by which humans discover and understand it. Since 2000, 154 projects have=20
received NSDL collection, service and targeted research awards, including=20
35 new projects in 2003.
Journalists are also welcome to attend any of the NSDL annual meeting=20
sessions being held October 13-15.
