I'm delighted to announce that SIG/CR will host a doctoral symposium as
part of the upcoming 23rd annual SIG/CR workshop: Past, Prospects and
Pinnacles.
(More information: http://www.asis.org/asist2012/SIG_CR_Workshop.html ).

Five promising scholars have been selected to participate:

Melodie Fox, doctoral candidate (anticipated graduation 2014), University
of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

"Rhetorical Space and the Ontogeny of Women in the DDC."

Eva Hourihan Jansen, doctoral student (entered Fall 2011), University of
Toronto.

"A Review of *Boundary Objects* in Classification."

Elizabeth Milonas, doctoral candidate (expected graduation 2013), Long
Island University.

"Does Design Contribute to Web Facet Ease of Use? An exploratory study of
two search engines."

Kyong Eun Oh, doctoral candidate (expected graduation 2013), Rutgers
University.

"The process of organizing personal information."

K. R. Roberto, doctoral student (entered Fall 2012), University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign.

"How successful are controlled vocabularies at describing transgender
topics?"

Each participant will present a brief overview of research in progress. The
SIG is sponsoring the cost of the workshop fees for these promising
scholars, and workshop participants will be invited to provide feedback.

We are also looking for volunteers who may not be able to attend the
workshop, but would be willing to review the CV and a brief research
abstract for one participant, and provide constructive comments in writing
by Sunday October 21 (to klabarre at illnois.edu). Please contact Kathryn to
volunteer, and indicate which student you would prefer to review.

You don't want to miss this all day workshop - which also features:

Three guest speakers: Marjorie Hlava, Fran Miksa, and Shawne Miksa.

Jonathan Furner as rapportuer.

10 short papers, and a number of lightning talks.
