As promised another bit from the SIG files.

>From an ADI announcement highlighting the "new organizational component"
anticipated to have a substantial impact on the character of the institute
- seven special interest groups (with an eighth chartered in March 1967).
Organization of these new SIGS began in the summer of 1966, and business
meetings were held at the annual meeting in 1966.

"At the Annual Business meeting of ADI the Classification Research SIG
will be considering the needs of the layman in its discussion. Margaret
Fischer will moderate a panel of Pauline A. Atherton, Harold Borko, Donald
J. Hillman, and William J. Paisley to explore

“How can Mr. Mits (man in the street) Best Construct a Classification
Scheme”

The panelists will represent four different approaches to the construction
of classification schemes – traditional librarian,

statistical/automatic,

logical/mathematical

and psychological /philosophical.

The intended emphasis will be on operational and fundamental aspects with a
maximum of help for the user with a minimum of definitions and dogma."
