Greetings!
As a member of the 75th anniversary task force, I've been preparing for the
upcoming ASIST annual meeting by visiting the ASIST records at the
University of Michigan. I've also been collecting information about SIG/CR
for a paper I'll be giving at the *Pre-Conference on the History of ASIST
and Information Science and Technology Worldwide *
http://www.asis.org/asist2012/historyofASIST.html
SIG/CR is one of seven original Special Interest Groups established at the
American Documentation Institute on March 3, 1966. At that time, Phyllis
Richmond was appointed Chair pro temps and Pauline Atherton was appointed
Vice Chair pro temps. Of this original group only SIG/CR and SIG/ES (now
ED) are still alive! It would also be fair to say that part of another
original SIG BC (Biological and Chemical Information Systems) still lives
on in the virtual SIG BIO (Bioinformatics).
SIG/CR has a long history. Though our numbers are quite small in our 46th
year, I'd like to see what we can do to breath new life into this SIG.
Perhaps we could devote the next SIG/CR workshop to looking back and
looking forward to planning the next 50 years?
