Rule-based Taxonomies and Algorithmic Concept
Extraction: A Tale of Two Companies
Bert Carelli, Director, Business Development, DeepDyve
Bert will talk about two companies’ radically
different approaches to search. His former
company, AGIS, reinvented its business model in
2007, redirecting all its resources into
developing a consumer-focused web service for the
elderly and those caring for them. He will
describe working with Access Innovations to deal
with the challenges of data normalization across
different content providers and using the
taxonomy to enrich user experience. His current
company, DeepDyve, has taken a different path,
using an advanced pattern-matching search
algorithm. Bert will discuss the pros and cons
of each approach, as seen from a business perspective.

Streamlining Workflows with Data Harmony at the National
Transportation Library
Amanda Wilson - National Transportation Library
Amanda will discuss how the National
Transportation Library's (NTL) uses thesauri and
taxonomies developed and maintained in Data
Harmony to streamline procedures. The
Transportation Research Thesaurus workflow
requires review and vetting by a committee whose
members, not USDOT staff, are located throughout
the United States and Canada. The NTL is also
working within USDOT on a cooperative effort to
create taxonomies for the Federal Highway
Administration by providing access to Data
Harmony for development and deployment. These
taxonomies are used to classify and search
digital libraries, and will potentially serve as
an enterprise taxonomy for the organization.

Medical Record Applications – Accessibility to Customer Service
Content
Sandra Nunn, MA, RHIA, CHP, Enterprise Records
Manager, Presbyterian Healthcare Services
Chuck Klein, IT Analyst, Level V, Presyterian Healthcare Services
Hear a discussion of the development and use of a
taxonomy to support at-your-fingertips access to
information for the contact center service
representatives at Presbyterian Health Plan.

Quadruple Duty: Single-Source Thesaurus/Metatags/Taxonomy/Navigation
Eileen Quam, Information Architect
Office of Technology, State of Minnesota
The State of Minnesota has just released a new
website, License Minnesota, that brings together
all business, professional, recreational and
transportation license information. Eileen Quam
shows how the thesaurus, created in Thesaurus
Master, was leveraged to not only tag the license
information, but also create the taxonomies and
navigation of the License Minnesota website. She
demonstrates the website's public face but also
the back office applications of TM output in XML
integrated into the SDL Tridion content management system.

Tom Reamy – Chief Knowledge Architect KAPS Group
Tom Reamy is well known speaker on the topics of
taxonomies and their creation.
He will present thoughts on 1. Combining facets with subject taxonomies
2. Limits and uses of folksonomies in combination with Taxonomies

Wednesday - February 11, 2009 9 - 5 PM

Search Harmony – the search integration
Lamine Idjeraoui, Development Programmer, Access Innovations, Inc.
Lamine will cover the many modules of the Search
Harmony product including auto completion,
more precise search suggestions from narrower
terms, expanded search from related terms,
all generated from the taxonomy, as well as
several options for the display of results such as
NAVtree, an annotated navigation tree, for a
versatile set of options for search implementation.

Metadata extraction – a demo of the new system
Tao Liu, Manager Programming Team, Access Innovations, Inc.
Using a technical report or a journal article the
talk will take the user through the steps for
automatic extraction of a full bibliographic citation using Metadata extractor.

Inline XML Markup
Lamine Idjeraoui, Developer, Data Harmony, Access Innovations, Inc.
Using the example of the Mark Logic Connector -
Data Harmony integration, we will hear
how MAIstro is used to provide inline tagging of
documents. Different presentation
formats will be shown as well and a discussion
on how to accomplish the integration
  will be included.

Relevance Ranking
Alice Redmond-Neal, Chief Taxonomist, Access Innovations, Inc.
Annette Grant, Manger, Production Services, Access Innovations, Inc.
Data Harmony has traditionally concentrated
on precision and recall based on hit, miss, and
noise statistics. Recent comparisons have called
for relevance ranking. The new relevance ranking
system can be adjusted by weighting any field as
well as other options. We describe the relevance
ranking system and show results in a head on
comparison of M.A.I. with Autonomy and Content Analyst software.

SharePoint Connector
Tao Liu, Manager Programming Team, Access Innovations, Inc.
The new SharePoint connector includes implementation of a taxonomy,
automatic categorization, relevance ranking and
other features for SharePoint Users.
Most of the new connector series will have some of these attributes as well

Saving money and justifications
Jay Ven Eman , CEO, Access Innovations, Inc
We have gathered a great many studies from our customers covering how much
they have saved in direct staff time, opportunity cost, a system time etc.
We will share these scenarios with you for use as justification and support
of your continued use of the software.

Web 2.0 and Semantics
Dr. Jay Ven Eman, CEO, Access Innovations, Inc.
Did you ever wonder what the impact of Web 2.0 and social networking
have to do with taxonomies? How can these semantics be leveraged to gain
better use of the Web 2.0 capabilities inside and outside your organization.

The development calendar
Marjorie M.K. Hlava, President Access Innovations
What is coming up next for Data Harmony enhancements and new programs?
We will share the list to get user reactions.
