Greetings SIG leaders,

It is time, once again, to think about your opportunity to reach out
to new members and first time conference attendees at ASIS&T'09!

As many of you know, the New Member/New Attendee Brunch was a huge
success last year. One of the new strategies that Elise Lewis and
Caryn Anderson implemented a couple of years ago was to engage SIGs in
the event by having your SIG provide 50 copies of a ONE-PAGE
information sheet about your SIG. We placed these sheets on tables
that we designated for your SIG (sharing with one or two other
SIGs). In this way, new members and first-time attendees could choose
to sit at a table that matched their interests and talk with other
like-minded members/attendees. In many cases, a representative from
your SIG attended and was able to share information directly with
these newcomers and later introduce them to colleagues during the
conference. We received very positive feedback about this strategy and
plan to do it again this year.

How to participate in the 2009 New Member/New Attendee Brunch:

1. If your SIG wishes to participate, please let me (Heather,
hdp at cs.nmsu.edu or heatherdpfeiffer at gmail.com) know as soon as
possible. Please tell me whether you will deliver flyers only or
whether you will also send a representative. ** Please do not send
    more than one representative. **

2. Create a ONE-PAGE information sheet about your SIG and bring 50
copies of that flyer to the Annual Meeting. You will be able to
leave your flyers in a box at the registration desk (marked: New
Member/New Attendee Brunch flyers). After the event, leftover
flyers will be placed in the lobby.

3. Last year, we were able to provide a real "brunch" instead of the
traditional continental breakfast because several of the SIGs gave
a small donation. This year again, can your SIG make a
contribution of $50 - $150 to "sponsor" this important event for
our newest colleagues? Please indicate by email to me (Heather),
at hdp at cs.nmsu.edu or heatherdpfeiffer at gmail.com, by October 31st
if your group would like to sponsor the brunch. Like last year,
if you donate we will give you time to talk about your SIG at the
    brunch.

I look forward to hearing from you soon, as we are three weeks away,
so that we will know which SIGs are participating.

Thanks for helping to make the newcomers feel welcome!

Sincerely,

-Heather D. Pfeiffer, PhD
