ASIST Members and Friends,

It is with great pleasure that we announce the James M. Cretsos Leadership
Award winner:  Amy Wallace. The award will be presented to Amy during the
Annual Conference in Long Beach California, during the ASIST Leadership 
Development Program "Show me the Money," on Sunday, October 19, 2003, 
3:30 p.m. Amy is  not only our Cretsos Award Winner; she is also a speaker in that program.


This award is given annually to a member of the American Society for
Information Science and Technology who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities
In professional ASIS&T activities and who has been a member less than seven
years. With this award her potential for leadership at higher levels within the
American Society for Information Science and Technology is recognized.

Ms. Wallace's activities on behalf of her chapter, LACASIS - the Los Angeles 
Chapter, include being the Chapter Chair, significant program planning and 
mentoring a new chapter newsletter editor.  Very early in her ASIS&T career 
Amy was awarded the chapter's Outstanding Member Award.  One of Amy's most 
noted accomplishments for the chapter has been in the recruitment and 
retention of members, and obviously a model for others.  It should be noted 
that the incoming chair of the chapter was recruited by Ms. Wallace.  As 
part of this she has planned and moderated panels for recent graduates of 
the area library and information science programs, the place where the 
society can find and groom strong members.  As part of one of these program 
it was described that she "imparted practical and thoughtful information on 
what employers are looking for in new hires based on her own recent 
experiences, both as a manager and as a job candidate."  Vision, skillful 
leadership, dedication, proactive, inspiring are terms all used to describe 
Ms. Wallace's activities on behalf of LACASIS.

Her national contributions include membership on the Information Science 
Education Committee, part of which included work on the ASIS&T Educational 
Guidelines.  A website rich with Long Beach area activities to supplement 
the official ASIS&T activities at the 2003 Annual Meeting includes 
substantial contribution from Ms. Wallace.

We also extend our special thanks to the ASIS&T members who made nominations
for this award, and to the members of the award jury.
