Students listening to iPods are a familiar sight on Emory's campus, but what some of them are listening to may surprise you.

Assistant chemistry professor Justin Gallivan started podcasting his biochemistry lectures on topics like protein structures and enzymes earlier this semester. Podcasting is a way to distribute audio and visual information through the Internet that automatically transfers the information to a computer. It can then be uploaded to mp3 players or transferred into other portable music formats.

Gallivan said he got the idea for podcasting from a newspaper article. He was skeptical of whether anyone would be interested in using the technology, until he noticed people were tape-recording his lectures.
